Monday's Hot List

Happy Monday friends.  Sorry for missing some posts last week, just forgive us, ok?!
Ok, moving on.  Today's hot list:

10 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Us! (or maybe you did if you're really good friends with us!)

Glenda:
1. I was born in Virginia. The majority of my extended family is in the Virginia / North Carolina area.
2. My name is a combination of my mom and dad's names - Glenn & Brenda
3. I get carsick/motion sick very easily!
4. I have never broken a bone.
5. My grandma was my kindergarten teacher. When I was little I decided to call her Mea and now everyone who knows her calls her Mea. She is an amazing woman. She is one of my best friends and an inspiration!
6. Erik & I met on the very first day of college and have been together ever since. (That was in Sept of 1993 - you do the math!)
7. I have always LOVED math! And, I'm pretty darn good at it :)
8. The way things smell is SUPER important to me. If it smells bad I am OUT on it!
9. I am an introvert. I crave alone time. Actually, I need alone time to re-charge and to be able to handle life well.
10. My idea of an amazing vacation is laying on a beach, poolside or any other body of water!

Rhoda:
1. I really would like to get a tattoo.  Something scripty (probably).  Not sure what yet...but I don't have the guts to at the moment because I have a PHOBIA of needles!
2. I'm a lefty, so if you ever get a letter, card, or note from me that is smeared it's because my left hand is smearing the wet ink across the page! (I HATE that!)
3. I've had red, blue, purple, and pink in my hair (not recently and not at the same time!).
4. My favorite type of music at this moment: hip hop/rap.  It's all that I listened to while I ran a half-marathon this past weekend.
5. My ears are pierced, I just haven't felt comfortable wearing earrings since the middle of high school.
6. I hurdled and pole vaulted in high school.  I was decent at hurdles, and horrible at pole vault (but pole vaulting is SO fun!).
7. I love making "to-do" lists.  Crossing out something I've finished off the list makes me happy! (nerd!)
8. I've never had a fireplace in my home until moving to Texas and purchasing the home I'm in now.
9. I'm OCD about making sure my car door, garage door, front door is locked.  I think it stems from childhood memories of thinking someone was breaking into the house in the middle of the night.
10. My mom taught me how to crochet as a child.  Just a few months ago I picked it back up as well as knitting.

...Now you know!

Monday's Hot List

Hello friends!  Today I present you with a fun fun fun list:

Favorite Shows at Happy Hearts

Many times we end up in the family room on the floor watching these shows while we make invitations instead of in our office.  We're obsessed! :)
  • Biggest Loser: it's on hiatus at the moment (because of the Winter Olympics...which we love too!).  We've been watching it for a very long time and just love Jillian and Bob!
  • 24: two words for you- JACK BAUER.  It doesn't get any better than this.  OBSESSED for sure!

  • Glee: I wish my high school years were a musical.  Amazing.  Fun drama for sure! My favorite part last season- when Will finally found out that Terri was faking her pregnancy.  It was about time!

  • Survivor: Obsessed for sure.  And this season is amazing...Rupert and Russell make it amazing.

  • Project Runway
  • Modern Family
  • The Office: classic.
  • Big Bang Theory: Ultimate Nerdness on so many levels.
  • The Bachelor: Can we go to St. Lucia?
There's so many other shows we watch, but I think you get the point.  We're obsessed, but these shows are a great to pass the time by when we're creating!

Happy Monday!

Our Corner of the World Wednesday!

Tonight when my husband came home from work he brought in this box that was sitting at our front door (I had somehow missed seeing it all day long!!!!)...

I recognized the FTD guy on the box...but didn't fully know what it meant.  When I opened the box up there was all this super beautiful and yummy packaging...

Then underneath the great packaging there was a beautiful bouquet of tulips!

(As hard as I tried I couldn't make the picture do the flowers justice)

My amazing husband surprised me "just because."

Being surprised with flowers delivered to my door makes me feel pursued and loved.  I am blessed.  I am thankful!

What in your life makes you feel pursued, loved, blessed?

Monday's Hot List

Happy Monday evening everyone.  How was the weekend?  Did ya'll have a good Valentine's day?  I hope so!

Some of you may know that next Saturday, Feb 27th, there's big race coming to town.  The Cowtown Marathon is coming to Fort Worth and there are lots of people getting ready for 5k's, 10k's, and half marathons.   While I know Happy Hearts, the company, isn't all about running and health and such, we here are workout fanatics!  Now, some of these tips may be repeats from Andi over at The Running Mama, but that's because she's knows her stuff, and her tips are worth repeating!

  • If you are hurting, back down.  Don't overwork your body (I had to do that the past month: did some spin classes and I'm not behind at all!)
  • Don't overrun!  There's no need to up your mileage days before the race.
  • Make sure the night before the race to carb-load.  Eat some spaghetti and meatballs.  Lasagna.  Nothing too garlicy and oily.  Carbs = fuel for race day.
  • Have some protein for breakfast (about an hour before the race).  Protein makes you feel full for a longer period of time than carbs.  You want something in your stomach (especially if you are running 10k or the half-marathon).
  • Stop at EVERY water station!  You may think you are hydrated, but you'll be sweating like crazy during the race.  Also, water stations serve as mini goals--- last year I would tell myself "ok, just make it to the next water station," and it felt great to accomplish that mini goal!
  • Make a music playlist for your iPod. A MUST.
  • Give yourself a boost by eating Clif Shot Blocks or Energy Jelly Bellies during the race.  Both are great!
  • If it's your first race ever (any distance), make your goal for race day to just finish the race.  Last year that was my goal and that's all I worried about, and I finished my race faster than I thought I would!
  • Don't freak out and be too nervous on race day.  Let the adrenaline of the crowd and excited people carry you through your race!
  • Prepare everything you will need for the race THE NIGHT BEFORE!  Don't do it the morning of.  You'll forget something.  That means, pin your bib # on your shirt the night before (front of shirt).  Other things to prep: timing chip on your shoe, snacks, water, gatorade, chap stick, change of clothes for after.
  • Don't overdress: Dress as if the weather is 15 degrees warmer than it is (because you'll warm up to about that temp)
  • And here's a silly tip: don't wear the race shirt during the race.  Wear it after (it just makes you look like a rookie! haaha).
Well that list is HUGE!!! Hopefully you can navigate it and it brings you much help.  Leave questions if you have any!
